About

The way to a natural holistic life begins with a lifestyle choice intended to bring about balance and an all around change for the better. While modern medicine focuses mainly on physical ailments, holistic healing focuses on the physical, mental and spiritual well being; and while medical science places emphasis on synthetic lab formulated disease cures, holistic practice looks at achieving  complete wellness through more natural means.

If you are interested in pursuing a holistic life, there are many practices available that support this philosophy.

Holistic healing practices

Acupuncture: The practice of inserting filiform needles into acupuncture points situated on meridians where qi, or life energy, flows in order to relief pain or simply for therapeutic reasons.

Aromatherapy: A form of alternative medicine that uses plant derived essential oils, based on the theory that aroma effects our emotions, behavior, and memory, especially when introduced to the limbic system through smell.

Chiropractic Therapy: This treatment entails manipulation of the spine, joints and soft tissues. There are clinics that also provide exercises as well as health and lifestyle counseling.

Herbal Therapy: A traditional medicine using plants or plant extracts to treat diseases or conditions. Studies have shown that in some cases herbal products have performed better than pharmaceuticals. For example, Ginger was head and shoulders above pharmaceutical dimenhydrinate (Dramamine) in preventing motion sickness.

Massage Therapy: This practice involves soft tissue manipulation by applying pressure tension, motion, or vibration to achieve physical, functional or psychological wellness. To date, there are over eighty different massage methods, ranging from Acupressure to Watsu.

Reflexology: Also referred to as zone therapy, involves applying pressure to zone related areas of the feet, hands, or ears that coincide to different parts of the body to relieve tension, improve circulation, and help restore natural function.

Yoga: This teaching originated in India and has recently become popular in the western culture because of its mental, physical and spiritual benefits. Participants hold postures, or positions, for a short length of time focusing on controlled breathing while holding the body steady and comfortable. The word Yoga is synonymous with meditation.

Other things to consider in your pursuit

Eat Healthy: In eating healthier you will maximize nutrients while reducing calories. Take time to learn about nutritional supplements that can make a big difference in your health and vitality.

Eliminate Toxins: Become a label reader when shopping for food or household products. It is important that you know what you put in your body and what pollutants you are adding to the air you and your family breath.

Reduce Stress: Give yourself downtime from artificial noise to enjoy the soothing sounds of nature. Go for long walks around the neighborhood or the local park.

A natural holistic life is all about balance. In trying to achieve our dream of home and family, we have somehow tipped the scale. To regain our footing, we need to step back, take a deep breath, and enjoy what nature has provided.
